2022 Honorary Chairs Trevor Morris and Cathy (Maxwell) Kilpatrick
Saint John, NB – The 2022 East Coast Games start on June 10th, and the organizing committee is pleased to announce the selection of Trevor Morris and Cathy (Maxwell) Kilpatrick as the honorary chairs for the 2022 games. Both Trevor and Cathy have been very active in the New Brunswick sporting community, throughout the course of their careers.
Trevor Morris
In 1974, Trevor graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education. Trevor Morris used his degree by spending 32 years as a Physical Education teacher at Princess Elizabeth Junior High Middle School. During his career at Princess Elizabeth School, he had the privilege of coaching many different teams. He coached boys’ and girls’ soccer, volleyball, badminton, cross country, and track and field, along with girls’ basketball and softball, winning numerous district titles for the school. In 1989-90, he was honored by the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (CAHPER) for his Quality Physical Education program at Princess Elizabeth School. Trevor inspired many athletes to join and continue to compete in these sports he loved coaching.
As an athlete, Trevor was a star in many sports including soccer, cross country, track and field, and rugby. In high school, he competed in cross country; track and field, running 800 meters; and soccer, bringing home the provincial championship in all three sports in 1969. As he moved on to University level sports, Trevor continued playing soccer and also joined the rugby team. His rugby team became the UNB Fredericton University Rugby Champions and the Caledonia men’s rugby champions in 1973-74. In soccer, Trevor captained the UNBSJ soccer team to a conference championship while becoming the conference MVP. Trevor’s playing career and numerous accomplishments lead to him winning two athlete of the year awards, the first in 1969 at Saint John High School and the second in 1971 as the UNBSJ athlete of the year.
With so much playing experience and knowledge of sports, he put his skills to more use by becoming a soccer official and volleyball official. After university, Trevor continued to stay active by competing in competitive fastball and competing in senior mountain bike racing. Currently, he downhill and cross-country skis and he is an avid golfer and cycler. His biggest supporters are his wife Marie and children Josh, Craig, and daughter Lindsey.
Cathy (Maxwell) Kilpatrick
Cathy (Maxwell) Kilpatrick taught at all levels of school as a physical education teacher in elementary, junior high, and finished her last 19 years of her career at the high school level. At the high school level, she became the Athletic Director at Saint John High before heading over to Harbour View High as their Athletic Director. As for personal recognition as a teacher, Cathy was honored in 1994-95 with the School Recognition Award by the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (CAHPER) for her Quality Daily Physical Education Program at Lorne Junior High School.
Cathy’s love for sport stems from participating in basketball, volleyball, and track and field, developing into a phenomenal athlete. Winning numerous MVP awards and a provincial championship in high school. Moving on to university, she was and AUS all-star in basketball from 1975-79 and was a CIAU All Canadian in 1977-78 and 1978-79. Her athletic strengths were continuously recognized at every level by winning the Female Athlete of the year award in Junior High (New Albert School), High School (Saint John High School), and at University (UNB Fredericton).
Needless to say, she has an extensive list of accomplishments and has continued to stay active in retirement. She has been active serving on committees including NBTA High School Council for 4 years, Canadian Intramural Recreation Association (CIRA-NB) President for 4 years, and a member of the New Brunswick Physical Education Society. As a part of the NBTA, she organized provincial workshops, attended and organized national conferences.
Cathy says she has been very fortunate to play, coach, and work alongside some amazing people on this journey. With all this being said, Cathy is a mom to two amazing children Jacob and Kaylee who excel and give their time to promote their favorite sports of volleyball and basketball, respectively.
